Reach for Recovery held a very successful October awareness campaign at Durban Botanical Gardens in association with their two major sponsors, Top Carpets & Floors, and Lake Smit & Partners.

to date.  “  At one point I wondered if we had bitten off more than we could chew, with the number of events, awareness tables, talks in and around Durban but our volunteers really stepped up, and worked with such passion and commitment,” said Jenny Caldwell, Regional Chairperson of Reach for Recovery, LZN.

The venue at the Botanical Garden holds 250 and was were filled to capacity, with some people standing.  Dynamic speakers of the day,  Dr I Buzzimazza, and Dr Y Brakovsky, kept the attention of all the guests, with their wonderful informative and sometimes light hearted comments.  The message of breast cancer awareness went out loud and clear.

We received a wonderful thank you letter from Dr Buccimazza , who is one of the surgeons at our local Albert Luthuli Hospital.  See excerpt below.

“I thank the Reach for Recovery committee for the privilege of speaking at your annual meeting today. I was inspired to see how united, energised and committed the Reach for Recovery members are to their cause: supporting people undergoing cancer treatment. There is definitely much truth to the sayings that unity is strength, and that there is strength in numbers.

Being a speaker at your meeting today was definitely a highlight of my year. It was an absolute pleasure, and an opportunity I would not have missed for the world. Being in the midst of such brave and strong people was a humbling and simultaneously uplifting experience. I enjoyed the whole ambience: the warmth of those present, the songs, poems and stories told. I commend you and your team for organising this extraordinary meeting. The turn-out was phenomenal – testimony to the success of Reach for Recovery.

Please keep up the wonderful work Reach for Recovery does: I know that you touch many lives and ease the burden of many.”

Warm wishes,

Ines Buccimazza
