A very successful Breast Cancer Awareness event at the Durban Botanic Gardens on Wednesday, 5 October 2016, kicked off Reach for Recovery Durban’s 2016 campaign. We have certainly outgrown this beautiful venue. It was filled to capacity with 300 guests. We are so very proud of our amazing KZN team who together pulled this off in such a professional way.
Our guests were given gift bags that were bulging at the seams with amazing quality products that had been donated by our faithful, generous supporters. They were treated to a scrumptious ‘high tea’ as they arrived, before the program began. Our very talented entertainer and MC for the day, Sandy Lawrence , entertained the crowd with her amazing voice. Sandy , a breast cancer survivor, was an active RFR volunteer for many years and her heart is still very much with us.
Our dynamic speakers gave such an interesting, amusing, and informative talks, and kept our guests captivated. Joan Fine, a RFR volunteer gave a wonderful, encouraging, amusing testimony on surviving breast cancer. She is a great speaker and ambassador for RFR. Heather Neave from Top Carpets, also a breast cancer survivor, praised the vital work and service RFR provides, saying she didn’t know how she would have goten through the journey (twice)without the support from RFR.
Rakhi Beekrum, a psychologist, gave the most encouraging and thought provoking talk on “The Power of Pink”…. An acronym ; P – positivity I – intuition N – nourishment K – kindness (to ourselves) . She posted on our RFR KZN face book page the following: “Yesterday I was honoured to be a guest speaker at the RFR – KZN breast cancer awareness day when I spoke on the power of “pink”. Thank you to the angels from RFR for your incredible, selfless & heart-warming work. I salute the brave breast cancer warriors”. Lee Campbell and Fazella Ismail from Lake Smit and Partners gave an excellent talk on “The myths surrounding mammography & radiation dose.”
We gave away 20 spot prizes to very excited winners, including 3 vouchers donated by Hirsch, and a beautiful Shaggy carpet, donated by Van Dyck Carpets, won by a very excited lady, Cathy Beneke.
We thank all our guests, speakers and sponsors for their continued support to Reach for Recovery, KZN.
