Reach for Recovery Tygerberg hosted a wonderful farewell event to say goodbye to Reach foRecovery’s longest serving volunteer – Auntie Beatie Els. Thank you to Cora and her team – it was a stunning effort by all of you.
Beatie was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was still breastfeeding her baby. In 1978 she started supporting other breast cancer patients in her home town Vereeniging under the auspices of CANSA. Her kindness and disposition made her an ideal visiting volunteer. After the loss of her husband she returned home to the Cape and having been born in Goodwood decided to settle in the area again. She was then trained as a RFR volunteer in mid 1990 and had been a stalwart of the hard working Tygerberg group visiting many in hospitals in the area both state and private ever since. Her primary thought as a visiting volunteers has always been the welfare and support necessary for someone whose journey with breast cancer has begun and she has served our organisation with distinction!
Thank you, Beatie for being a VERY special person who has enriched so many lives. On behalf of all of us at Reach for Recovery, we wish you well and joy in your life. You will always be in our hearts.
